The course

What Sea Trail – Maples Course plays like.

Designed by Dan Maples and opened in 1986, this course showcases the natural beauty of the Carolina low country with its marshy landscapes and mature pine trees. Golfers will find generous fairways and strategically placed bunkers that challenge shot placement. The par 5 on the 15th hole is particularly memorable, featuring a double dogleg that demands precision. The course is well suited for players who appreciate classic design and strategic play.

Reviews

3.25 out of 5 from 476 golfers.

Left by people who booked this tee time through us and played it.

Bag attendant was rude to a member of our group. Had to check in at the convention center and drive to maples. Waste of time and energy....

Langley, Manassas

Maples would be a keeper for us. A terrific course in great condition

Jim, Scituate

Great course, need some fairway improvement but overall good place to place

Kip, Greeneville

Cause was remodeled recently a.d had not matured. Fairways were la king grass in a lot of spots. Greens were okay but not mature yet.

Woodie, Penhook

Great improvement on the course and with more time the greens will only get better!

Larry, Morristown

Sand traps need sand and inconsistent

robert, falls church

Poor fairways, way too much waste and confusing layout.

Chuck, Glenmont

This course was in good shape, but directional signage was absent where it was needed. Our condo was actually on the 18th fairway, and I was instructed by the pro shop that we would need to park at the main clubhouse and ride the shuttle. We chose to use drop off and actually park at the condo. I was told that the parking lot was for members only and that the clubhouse was closed only when we dropped off clubs.

Robert, Monroe

Somewhat dry, tee boxes were in rough shape

O'Dell, Normalville

Course in poor shape. Clubhouse was closed.

Butler, Doylestown

I would give the Sea Trail courses a rating below the Pawleys Island courses we normally play. Not the same standard of care and maintenance.

Whitehouse, Scarborough

Nicely laid out, and the staff is quite friendly. Only issue is the restaurant for the Maples course being closed for remodeling

Curtis, Annapolis

Good conditions. Helpful and friendly staff. Pace of play good.

Jonathan, Weddingon

Different from the Jones course..not quite as chilly and no wind...a pleasant round

Russell, Columbus

good course needs a lot of love around rough areas I know maples likes Waste Areas but redesign cutting out some of waste areas would be a plus

Daniel, sandwich

A very good course needs some work it had a lot of bare rough areas. I believe Maples got a little carried away with amount of waste area good but nowhere near level of other three but, still a good day.

Daniel, sandwich

Great course!

Gary, Washington courthouse

Way too much waste bunkers. Replace a majority of it with rough.

Matt, Cincinnati

Greens too firm

Eric, New Bern

Greens could had been more receptive

Massey, New Bern

The renovations to the course are fantastic. Our group’s favorite of the three. Staff was excellent

Russell, Boonville

No cart paths

Ronald, Wilmington

Tested is very well

Robert, Waterford

Didn’t like this course very much, tight fairways with no grass in the rough

Jeffrey, Roaring Spring

Very impressed with the course. Very well maintained and easy to play. We had a great time at the course. Everyone was surprisingly happy with the course. Looking forward to see the renovation of the clubhouse next year.

Chan, Hagerstown

Very good course. We enjoy it very much.

Chan, Hagerstown

If not on fairways hitting out of muck. No rough grass

Boyd, Roaring Spring

Didn’t play was sic

Hadley, Livonia

Didn’t play was sic but told it was ok

Hadley, Livonia

Was not ready to be open waste areas were a mess tees greens & fairways good I played this facility in the 90’s when it first opened I see the progress after a decline

Steve, Belair

When the renovation is completed all of the three courses will be great

David, hubert

Disappointing after renovation. Fairways rough, greens were ok, overall conditions were poor. Shuttle to course was an inconvenience. Staff was friendly

Mathew, Rochester

To much hardpan in fairways, and no GPS anywhere

Cote, Amesbury

Course layout good. Improvements necessary.

Kinchla, Esst Sandwich

Enjoyed it very much. We shot 8 under. Greens need work, but we had a blast

O’Neal, Washington

Glad they’re closing and renovating it

Steven, Plymouth

Needs more work on the cart paths and greens

Kevin, Durham

Cart paths are awful

Jeffrey, Etowah

I have always liked this course. The next thing on the renovations chart should be the Maples cart paths. The greens were better than Jones and I would rate the whole course higher except for the paths.

Tim, Hendersonville

Good setup greens in good shape tee boxes could use some attention

Eddie

Great condo. Great golf except for cart paths which were awful

Ken, Cornelius

Good course. Recommend they at 150 yard posts/markers visible from the tee

Carson, Hendersonville

Course closed

Buie, Hendersonville

wont golf sea trail again over priced for quality

christopher

I have played 107 golf courses in the marketed "Myrtle Beach / Grand Strand" area over the past 40 years, and have them all ranked on my Excel spreadsheet. Maples is my favorite of the 3 Sea Trail courses. Knew the condition might be suspect with this good of a rate. Condition was not good, but acceptable. We know it follows Byrd with a complete overhaul. Will once again be a gem. STILL a great layout.

Williams, Fuquay-Varina

the course set up was decent the greens were in a lot better shape than Jones. Options for food on the turn was limited. only options were chips and candy.

Travis, Cary

Pretty much the same as Jones but definitely better, I’d guess by next year both courses will be up to par.

Greg, Red Springs

club house from 1950 no dining facility

Bruce , Mooresville

Probably the better of the 2 between this and Jones, had fun on this layout.

Edward, Falmouth

Again inconsistent greens

Mike, Madoc

greens were in bad shape

William, Mooresville

Greens were not good.

William, Mooresville

Rough condition, cart paths were a disaster.. would not play it again

Thomas, Kannapolis

slightly disappointed that the pub wasn't open. mainly because we just arrived and planned to eat before teeing off. if we knew in advance we could have eaten before arriving. the course itself was okay.

Fred, Virginia Beach

Loved the course and layout. Staff was very nice . will go back maybe next year.

James , Middleport

Very nice easy to navigate

Brian, Moorefield

great golf awesome staff

Jeff, Carson City

Marginally better than Byrd and Jones, but general maintenance still terrible.

Edmund, West Sinsbury

better routing with a couple of mistakes, ridiculously narrow fairways as they did a poor job of overseeding, greens have not been aerated in far too long

Jules, Hamden

Pretty layout but with all the construction around the course it wasn’t in the best shape. If you didn’t land in the fairway you were hitting off dirt and debris. Not having a driving range was odd!

Cary, Ruatburg

nice course. good staff working.

Justin, Grove City

Greens not very good

Randy, Greensburg

Greens slow and shaggy

Jonathan, Wellford

Course was not in very good shape... weeds were everywhere

HOWARD, WATKINSVILLE

Course needs a lot of work! Cart paths were terrible!

George, Locoust Grove

Course very nice but cart paths took a lot away from experience

Barry, The Villages

Greens not cut, tall grass/weeds everywhere, rude staff…this is NOT the Sea Trails I have played for 40 years

Dawn, danville

Fairways were mowed a bit narrow. Greens rolled well. Cart paths were a bit rough, lots of broken pavement ruts to be careful not hitting while driving.

Ron, Concord

Areas off of fairways were horrible. Not what I would expect for the money.

Linwood , Selma

The course has really gone downhill over the years.

Chuck, Hendersonvile

Very poo conditions.

Ken, Mills River

Not well mantained and staff was saying the courses were close to being sold and no one cared.

Carl, Hendersonville

Reported to Cliff, terrible course. Bad fairways and dangerous cart paths. Greens had at least 3 different types of grass. Poorly maintained. Clubhouse closed at 230 pm. Couldn’t finish round as sprinklers were on the green. Very bad experience. Glad that our money was returned for other booked rounds. We were able to book better courses.

Cathie, Mississauga

Tight course, ok condition.

Paul, Waterloo

great course

Art, Bonita Springs

This course is in very rough shape, would not recommend it.

Alan, Caring Place

Still very rough.

Lin, Guelph

Sand Traps need to be raked

John, Ridgely

Greens were a little slow. Tees shaggy. Pretty decent though.

Darren, Everett

nice layout, but needs some landscaping

Tim, Brecksville

Same as Jones, great layout little easier, a really nice resort.

Mark , Ottawa

Decent layout but the course was not in good condition. Narrow fairways and the rough was bare in many spots. The greens were punched and virtually in puttable. Cart paths are in need of repair

Tom, Owen Sound

greens were in excellent shape. Cart paths definitely need work

Larry, Buckhannon

was in good shape, but the snack bar was closed, so no lunch for our replay, that was very disappointing

Timothy, Apple Valley

Some of the fairways still had debris on them. Restaurant was closed.

Perry, Reading

Course seems rather neglected and in poor shape. Also no food at the course was bad.

David, Allentown

A bit better on the greens than Tuesday

Charles, Centerville

Terrible fairways, very slow greens. Maybe the worst course we have played in Myrtle Beach in 28 years.

Charles, Centerville

Course was in horrible shape and stater was lackadaisical in hiss approach to his duties. We will NEVER play this course again.

Paul, Triangle

Sub-standard. Course was in poor condition, starter and pro shop operators were indifferent and not helpful.

Mark, Dumfries

No water on course, in terrible shape, staff rude/indifferent

John, Stokesdale

Terrible condition. No food options. The guy at the clubhouse told me before we teed off and again at the turn that a cart would come around with sandwiches and drinks. We played 37 holes and cart never showed up. Course needs to be bulldozed.

Todd, Kingsport

Worst course on the trip. Golf shop guy was rude and tried to tell us the course was closed. Will not return here.

David, Monroe

Course will not be open this time next year. They are putting no money into it. Clubhouse was empty, no food, and staff were unfriendly.

Matt, Winder

Greens were in good shape. Fairways had no grass and burnt grass.

Randy, Maxton

Cart path is in ruff shape The people were great

Peter, Moseley

probably the worst shape of the 3 sea trail courses we played over the weekend.

Daniel, Fayetteville

Fairways were good; however, greens needed work.

Alan, Summerville

Cart paths need attention, badly.

James, Manassas

Very enjoyable time. Course played well and pase was good. We had a very good time. All staff were pleasant and friendly.

David, Lewiston

Lovely scenery, fairways were very easy to keep our balls inplay, The greens were goood at this time of the year. No regrets.

HARVEY, LONDON

Interesting course as well, it was quite a bit like the Byrd. The check in and cart loading was efficient and friendly.

Lin, Guelph

Course was ok, greens better than Byrd. Staff was friendly

Jack, Blakeslee

The frat 4-5’holes not great. Our least favorite.

Very nice course, staff very friendly.

Jimmy, Pamplin

didnt play 2nd time

ERROL, TOLEDO

Course is old and outdated, greens haven’t been cut and are really slow. Not enough staff. Clubhouse isn’t stocked. No snack bar open.

Corey, Nebo

Starter was awesome, track was incredible. No beverage cart.

Tom, Centreville

Need more ball washers, trash cans and cart person sell drinks.

raymond, MIRAMAR

No maintenance or upkeep was evident with bathrooms or cart paths. Greens were spotty and in poor condition

Mike, Camarillo

Course conditions the worse I've seen in MB. The course should have been closed. Cart paths unridable, tee boxes were awful. It was quite embarrassing for me to have the group play there.

robert, myrtle beach

Rain got us so no golf. Gave 4 stars because I love the Maples course.

Ricky, Cana

Course was nice and speed of play was awesome in the afternoon

Wes, West Bloomfield

Like the course. Cart paths were very rough.

Steven, Mentor

Great course

Scottie, Indianapolis

needs some TLC

will, trenton

greens were in bad shape

Michael C, Glen Allen

Overall upkeep of the course was poor. With as many options to play in the NC/SC coast I don't plan to come back. We played on a Saturday, where were the workers? The grill was not open that is very poor!

Terry, Franklin

Gr ens we’re terrible

Don A, Sanford

Greens not good

Don A, Sanford

We’re is cart girls for water

Brian, Sharon

Lacking grass in fairways

Dennis, Winchester

Course needs attention

Dave, marion

Greens need some attention

Dave, marion

Greens, tee boxes and fairways playable but not great. All looked like they needed a mowing but also very soggy conditions. Bag drop guy was very nice and helpful.

Gerard, Ocean City

Course in good shape for time of year, and the entire staff interactions were cordial and pleasant.

richard, FREDERICKSBURG

Probably the most diverse course and fun. Needs upgrading on the cart paths or eliminate the worst spots .

Great design

Donald, Henrico

Best staff out of the courses that we played. Cart paths also need attention

Eural, Vansant

Wet fairways. Small, nice greens. This was our overall favorite.

Ricky, Cana

Was not maintained well....cart paths were in awful condition. Our cart just up and stopped halfway down the first hole that we played. I had to walk back to clubhouse and get a replacement.

Cory M, Buckhannon

Love all the waste bunkers and scenic water holes and gorgeous hom3s around the course

Lee, Red Wing

Love all the waste bunkers and scenic, challenging water holes.

Lee, Red Wing

No one in club house after we teed off. Locked up. No restroom access at clubhouse, restrooms on course locked up also. Not very welcoming at all. Wanted to play another nine; had to pack up and go to other course to pay and play.

Lynn, Staunton

Loved the sprawling waste bunkers, many water hazards and Bermuda grass greens.

Lee, Red Wing

Course and pathway need repair

Rose, Reston

Rained the night before and course was unplayable.
